Nang Suang or Phra Mae Ya was the consort of Pho Khun Si Inthrathit and she was a mother of Pho Khun Ban Mueang and King Ramkhamhaeng as it was written in the first stone inscription. The word "Phra Khaphung Phi" in the stone inscription means a ghost that powerful than all ghosts. Therefore, archaeologists interpreted that ghost as a Phra Mae Ya ghost. In the past, people respected the King as a father so the mother of the father is called Ya(in Thai). This was where the name "Phra Mae Ya" came from. Later, a statue was discovered in the Phra Mae Ya Cave and assumed that it was a sculpture of Nang Suang. The province moved the sculpture to be enshrined at Phra Mae Ya shrine, in front of City Hall Sukhothai. People usually take Thai custard cake to make a votive offering to Phra Mae Ya. In Sukhothai, there is a ceremony to pay homage to Phra Mae Ya along with the Red Cross Fair this is held around January-February of every year. Currently, people apply the costume of Phra Mae Ya in the Sukhothai dance
